Variations and Substitutions

Consider shaking up your green tea shot in a few different ways, including enjoying it on the rocks.

  • Experiment with different styles of whiskey, rye, Irish, or bourbon to see which one you like best for your recipe.
  • For different citrus flavors, just only lemon juice or only lime juice. Likewise, you can use a half-ounce of sour mix in place of the simple syrup, lemon juice, and lime juice.
  • Use a splash of lime or lemon club soda instead of lemon-lime soda.
  • Enjoy the green tea shot as a cocktail by using a full ounce of whiskey and peach liqueur, then a half-ounce each of simple syrup, lime juice, and lemon juice. After shaking the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, pour it into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Top your drink off with lemon-lime soda and garnish with a lemon ribbon.
  • Swap your peach liqueur for peach vodka, either storebought or infused, or use a full ounce of peach whiskey for even fewer ingredients.

Garnishes

The green tea shot doesn't have a garnish, but that doesn't mean you can't add one! Consider including a lemon or lime slice, possibly even a wedge. You can use a candied lemon or lime slice for a sweet citrus garnish. If you want an event sweeter garnish, create a sugar rim for a sweeter shot. Simply rub the shot glass rim with a lemon or lime wedge. Then, in a saucer or on a plate, add the sugar and dip the entire rim, or just a portion of the rim, in the sugar. Green sugar is also an excellent option.

Enjoying the Green Tea Shot

Contrary to its name, the only likeness this shot has to green tea is the color. It, in fact, tastes like a smooth whiskey shot with a peachy flavor. The green tea shot is perfect for those who don't want the usual burn that you get when you take a shot. You can even shake these up in pairs for an even easier time making these. The recipe becomes equal parts whiskey, peach liqueur, and sour mix with a small splash of lemon-lime soda at the end. What could be better! And you don't even need a pint glass or have to chug the shot before curdling. For an even more fun experience, consider serving your green tea shot or cocktail in a small teacup.
