Paradise is different things to different people, but to us, it's a drink that's as blue and breezy as the Caribbean sea. That's why we love dipping our toes into the blue lagoon cocktail, a sweet-tart drink that's as easy to make as it is to drink.

Blue Lagoon Variations

The blue lagoon has a reasonably standard cocktail recipe, but you can play with the ingredients without losing the spirit.

  • Experiment with the vodka and blue curaçao proportions to see which you like most.
  • If you desire a tarter cocktail, add up to ¾ ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Make your blue lagoon a bit sweeter with a splash or two of simple syrup.
  • Use different vodka flavors for a fun spin, such as raspberry, citron, vanilla, or whipped cream.

Garnishes

Explore these tropical and eye-catching suggestions beyond the orange slice and cherry.

  • Use a cocktail and maraschino cherry in combination.
  • In place of an orange slice, consider an orange wheel. You can even use a dehydrated orange wheel for a modern look.
  • Other citruses make for an excellent garnish, including a lime or lemon.
  • Make it even grander with a decorative or fun swirly straw or even a cocktail umbrella.
Need to Know

It may sound super beachy, but the blue lagoon didn't come from the tropics — it came from Paris. It's an invention of the famed father and son bartender team, Harry and Andy MacElhone. Harry MacElhone is the creator of the boulevardier and sidecar, among others.
