  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ¾ ounce simple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice
  • Club soda to top off

  2. Shake vigorously for approximately 30 seconds.
  3. Add ice and shake vigorously to chill.
  4. Do not add ice, strain into highball glass.
  5. Slowly top off with club soda.

Variations and Substitutions

While the gin fizz may not look as though it offers much variety, there are plenty of variations.

  • Skip the egg white in favor of aquafaba.
  • Use different flavors of simple syrup, such as orange, rosemary, honey, or lavender.
  • Consider less simple syrup for a cocktail that isn't as sweet.
  • Try out different styles of gin to find the one that works best for you: Plymouth, Old Tom, London dry, or genever.

Garnishes

If you can't handle the notion of serving a drink without a garnish, consider one of these.

  • Consider a citrus touch with a lemon, orange, or lime peel, ribbon, or twist.
  • Opt for a dehydrated citrus wheel, perching this on the rim so as not to ruin the foam.
  • Use a light touch of citrus zest.

About the Frothy Gin Fizz

A traditional fizz cocktail is simply a spirit with acids and carbonation, gin, lemon juice, and tonic or vodka, lime juice, and club soda. Where the frothy gin fizz shines is the addition of the egg white and its presentation in a highball glass sans ice. Although it shares the same ingredients with the regular gin fizz, or even a Tom Collins, the egg white is what sets this drink apart.

Egg white can be intimidating to work with, whether you don't eat eggs or you're uncomfortable using raw egg white in a drink, aquafaba makes for an easy substitute. Made from the liquid found in cans of garbanzo beans, aquafaba gives you just as an incredible cocktail as traditional egg whites.

Gettin' Fizzy With It

This classic fizz takes bubbly gin drinks to a whole new level. From presentation to preparation to flavor, the frothy gin fizz is a memorable and worthy cocktail.
